Dan Östberg, Balkan nerd 2010 08 01 The 23rd and 24th of July, we played at the International Gypsy Fest in Trebisov, Slovakia. On the festival, groups from Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Slovakia and other countries performed. We were the only non-Roma band and it was a great honour for us to be invited. At the consert we play before Esma Redzepova and her band. Thursday the 5th of August Balkan Beat Train, leaves Stockholm for the Urkult festival in Näsåker. We will be onboard playing. Friday the 6th of August we're playing at Solscenen, Urkult festival. We will probably to other spontaneous in addition to that, so keep your eyes open. Friday the 13th of August we play at Stockholms Kulturfestival. Gypsy Queens and Kings play at Gustav Adolfs Torg. We play before the consert and also from a truck in different places in town earlier that day. Friday the 27th of August we play at Balkanfest Evanger in Evanger, Norway. The 29th of August we start our tour in Småland which continues until the 4th of September with an additional consert in Mullsjö on the 20th of September. They are called Bonden, Stekaren, and Bloggerskorna. /Göran 2010 05 24 Sweden's got Talent, Fasching, Balkan Beat Train On May 7th we played in TV4's Talang 2010 (Sweden's got Talent) and we got the jury's approval. However, we didn't make it through the final audition. You can watch the program on Sweden's got Talent, or see the clip on You Tube. Friday the 4th of June we're playing at the club GYPSY BEAT STREET, Fashing, Kungsgatan 63, Stockholm. It will be a night of cirkus artists and dance music including a live set by us. Balkan Beat Train, the train to Urkultsfestivalen A chartered train will take you directly from Stockholm or Gävle to Urkultsfestivalen in Näsåker. We're on the train playing. After celebrating the Orthodox new year we did a week long balkan coruse at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. After that we continued with our workshop with students from seven different cities in Sörmland. Three concerts within this project will take place this weekend 23-25 april. Süperstar Orkestar the best Balkan brass band of Stockholm is playing an explosive concert at Södra Teatern. You know the sound from Kusturicas movies ¨the Time of the Gypsies¨, ¨Underground¨ and ¨Black Cat, White Cat¨. The band has studied the style in Macedonia and Serbia to get just the right sound. Since they started out in 1997 the band have been very popular on festivals, weddings and concerts. Their concert at the 2003 Guca festival stands out as a memorable gig. This night they release their third album ¨Balkanized¨. On the record two celebrity guests: King Ferus Mustafov, king of Roma music on clarinet and saxophone who has toured with the band and is a great inspiration for the orkestar and Thorleif Torstensson, singer of famous Swedish dance band Thorleifs who, together with Süperstar Orkestar, created the new style ¨Dancebandbalkanmusic¨ in Swedish National Television. In Macedonia and Serbia their tours have got a lot of attention from media. One of the most refreshing songs on the cd is without doubt "Vackert", where Süperstar Orkestar participates. We had gigs at weddings and circumstance parties in Sutka outside Skopje. We had a live show in Macedonian TV where we played five songs. This week we have three public concerts in stockholm. Friday we play before Taraf de heidouks at Stockholm Culture Festival. There will be a lot of people, if the weather is good, hopefully 10 000. Monday August 28 we are in the musikprogramme Musikministeriet at Swedish national telivison. We are playing with Ferus Mustafov and create a new music genre with the dance band Thorleifs. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2005 08 24 This years festival in Guca are finishe and I can start to relax after the magic explosion. As usual it was a big party, but the differece from last year was that this year it was raining for two days. A disaster for all sleeping tents, but the trumpets never stopped playing. Svira – svira said all serbs and out of the instruments came to most phantastic improvisations. The winner of the best orchestra 2005 was Orkestar Nenad Mladenovic, and winner of Zlatna truba, the golden trumpet was Dejan Petrovic. It was nice that winner of cildrens Zlatna truba was Vladimir Ivanovic from Orkestar Zlatna Jabuka, the band I arranged a tour for in April this year. One of the travellers who came with me described the whole trip like a turbo engine were people where sucked in and thrown out with a big speed after beeing hit by a lovely party, nice people and phantastic musicians. Süperstar Orkestar will play in Göteborg 15:th of September at Musikens hus at 19.00. Entrance fee is 80 kr. be there on time, it is full after 100 persons. Musikens Hus 2005 07 17 Next Wednesday we will play in Stockholm concert house where the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has their concerts. We are taking part of a summer festival and will play in Grünvewaldsalen at 19.00. The day after we will go on a tour to Varberg, Göteborg and Krokstrand where we will do music- and dance courses. If you wish to participate it's ok.2005 02 24 New members of the band This year started up to present our new drummer Hakan Vreskala who played with us during the tour with Ferus Mustafov. He is really skilled and as you can hear he is born in Turkey and lives now in Sweden. During our rehearsals, Jonas, the saxophone player told us that he wants to quit and just play as an extra musician. The result of that is that we now have one more trumpet instead. David Bryntesson. He was also playing with us as a stand in last year and he is an exellent player. So now we have one clarinet, one saxophone and two trumpets. That´s acctually great and I hope all of you will enjoy our new sound. Between 13 - 21 March we will go for a tour in Sweden. 14 concerts in 8 days including one radio recording. We met them in the suburbs of Skopje during our trip to Macedonia when we started to play in the streets of Shutka last year. Next Tuesday Süperstar Orkestar are going to Serbia for a two week long tour. We are as the first band from Sweden officially invited to the Guca festival to play two concerts. This is great fun for us and we all are very happy for this. The Swedish organisation SIDA are supporting us through The Royal College of Music in Stockholm. We have a mission to meet and speak to a lot of roma people and to see about their situation and make meetings through music. The Guca festival has 200 bands and 300 000 vivitors over three days. The village of Guca has only 2500 inhabitants. SIDA has been working for a long time with the music academies in Sarajevo, Belgrade and Novi Sad. (Bosnia and Serbia.) There is a buss from Stockholm to Guca for those of you who are interested. The record store Multi Kulti is in charge of that. Süperstar Orkestar in Macedonia, the mowie, have had it´s premiere. Our conserts in Nalen for children were a great success and we got great review in both press and radio. We'd played for her royal highness Victoria and in Umeå folkmusic festival. For all of you longing for our next cd have comfort it's on it's way.We had our first session last sunday and we hope it will be ready before the summer. Magnus2002 11 12 Hello friends! This is your baryton player speaking. At this very moment we are having a great time doing concerts in school classes around Sörmland. It is really cool! It brings out a very special feeling to perform in front of all these children and teenagers. They really don't know how to react on this extraordinary Süperstar experience. We have put together a nice 35 minute concert program, which is supported by a picture show from our summer tour in Macedonia. (THANKS Tobbe!) We have a lot of interesting projects coming up so we are not at all idle. If that was what your were thinking! We will for instance soon be in the studio again, to record our second album. But now for the biggest and most important news! Süperstar Orkestar is now a band with eight permanent members. At a meeting the other week we decided that Jonas, our constant saxophone stand-in, from now on will hold a permanent position in the band. Moreover, we will from now on be two baryton players, and we really welcome Staffan Findin into the Süperstar family. So if there is anyone out there believing we're not playing loud or groovy enough, hang in there, now we're really rockin! Håkan 2002 10 10 There has been lots of things happening for the Süperstars the last few weeks! Except playing every week at weddings or private parties we had an absolutely fantastic gig at the Zeybek Bar in Stockholm. We´ve also almost completed making the music to an animated film for children. We all feel happy and a bit tired in our lips (except drummer Alexander, who is instead struggling to keep his three different sticks/clubs/iron bars for the big drum in order; the big drum itself new for the season). As said: the Zeybek Bar. You should have been there. A crowd of three hundred persons. Sold out. Hot. Humid. From the stage, we can see circular snakes of dancers trailing in and out between do-it-yourself dervishes and all kinds of joyous dancing faqirs. We play the first stirring staccato notes of Duracki Srecko, the pressure is mounting and we have to capitulate: this must be the best audience we`ve ever had! (and we´ve had many good, indeed all of them, except maybe, or?) Thanks to everyone who was there! You´re really never better than your audience, and this night, you made us play better and better! Göran Hi everyone, The summer is over but in Sweden it´s still as hot as in Macedonia, I know, because me and the others in Süperstar Orkestar where there for two weeks this summer. Süperstars in Macedonia!!! First we went to Bitola to play in the BitolaSummerFestival. The first people we met at the hotel were Swedish, guess if we were surprised. There was a Swedish- Macedonian wedding at the hotel and we were invited, PARTY! The day after we played in the festival at the square in Bitola. A nice evening with lots of people and nice music. Aleksander and Marie where dancing "Slängpolska", a Swedish folkdance. Two of my friends, Figge and Tobbe, joined us for the tour. They where filming and taking many pictures so maybe they´ll make a film about us and the trip. After Bitola we went to Skopje. Skopje vere quite empty this time of the year so we left for Shutka instead. Shutka is the big gypsy area just outside town. In three hours we saw 5 weddings, all of them with their own brassband. Among others, we met a great band called Orkestar Seat. In Skopje we played in a fishrestaurant for the Macedonien ambassadeur in Stockholm. After visiting Skopje, we went to Ohrid, a tourist town close to the Albanian border with lots of Albanian music. Here all of us got sick, so we just enjoyed the restaurant´s and nice people. From Ohrid we went to Bitola again to play in Ilidenski Denovi. This was just great for us and we became the "stars" of the festival. Instead of playing one gig, we played three, and we also played at a Macedonian wedding in the hotel. In Bitola we met Bajram. He is a phantastic surla and tapan player. We where invited in his home and some of us stayed for the night. Bajram had eight children and a wonderful wife. Hope to see you again. In the last days we thought of going back to Shutka again. This time we met Orkestar Pizzicato. They were great musicians and wery friendly. Some of them had relatives in one of the best Macedonian gipsybrass bands. Orkestar Agushevi. Finally we went to Strumitsa to meet this great band, Agucshevi. We were not disappointed. They played only for us, and it was very impressing. This was a wonderful journey. In one word; SÜPER BINGO! We met so many nice and friendly people like Bajram, Elvis, Mendo and many others. Thank´s for giving us a great time! Economically Macedonia is a pour country but in other ways it is wery rich….. 2002 07 09 Hello all friends! Now we have played at the Festival in Sundsvall. On the train we had some "taste of Balkan". An old man took place in Gävle. He didn´t speake any western language and was a bit confused. He was suppused to go to Arlanda (Which is the airport in the opposite direktion.) This became a bit complicated. We helped him to get off at the next stop 200 kilometers from the airport. His friend had to come by car and try to get in time for the flight. The festival was a success. On the consert we met a family from ex. Jugoslavia and they wanted us to play on their party later this autumn. We also played on the streats, as usual with great success. Macedonia is coming closer and closer. Göran is organizing and new T-shirts are ordered. Everybody is exersicing with entusiasm. Take care and wéll met in Bitola. Some of us spend a lot of time in the countryside and we have fallen into a nice slow tempo. Yet we did a cocktail gig on the 26/6 and the 28th parts of the band were busking on Drottninggatan. Saturday the sixth of July we'll be playing in Sundsvall and on the seventh we'll be in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm. We're charging our batteries for the trip to Macedonia. Lars 2002 06 21 Summer is here and we have played our first festival. We went to Västerås to play in a parade and to have a concert of our own. It was raining cat´s and dogs on the time of the parade so we were playing in diffrent spots in town instead. The night of the consert was much better and some of our fan from last summer were there ( they had seen us in Falun). Next day we made a gerilla gig down town in a nice corner of the shoppingstreet. After one hour and after selling some cd´s we went home just in time to change shirt and then heading for our next gig. We were playing i Brottby a small village 50 km north of Stockholm in a barn from year 1610. It was hot and after three hours of playing and dancing both we and the audience were tired. It was a nice weekend but alot of work. The only thing that didn´t work out as well were the world championships in soccer.
